Campus as Lab
In collaboration with the Office of Sustainability, the SED initiative leverages cutting-edge opportunities to explore social issues around sustainable decision-making using the Princeton campus as a living lab.
Past and current projects include a behavioral evaluation of Princeton's campus wide "do-it-in-the-dark" energy conservation competition. During the campaign, students are able to access a live-stream app that displays the energy usage of each residential college real-time as well as the average amount of energy consumed per student.
Other projects have looked at the effects of institutional norm-signaling and reducing bottled water consumption on campus through Princeton's drink-local program.pdf
Campus as lab decision research is funded by the High Meadows Foundation Fund for research, education, and civic engagement activities.
